Society has a way of putting pressure on people because they do not meet certain standards. I have come to realize over the years that people tend to show the finished product and never the process. The truth of the matter is that there is no perfect human being. We all face challenges in life and we all go through struggles. Unfortunately, we can’t run from these experiences but we can surely grow from them. I encourage you not to compare someone else’s journey to your own. All that glitters isn’t gold.
I am a Florida International University Transfer Student from Broward College and Miami-Dade College. I graduated High School in Brooklyn, New York. As a college student, I have faced so many challenges. Before I began college at FIU, I took a few years off to deal with my health problems after failing the Nurse Entrance Exam several times. One of the mistakes I’ve made in my life is comparing myself to other people. Many people, like myself, reach that pinnacle stage in their life where the opinions of others no longer holds weight. That is the point in my life when I received a wake-up call. I have no regrets because every mistake, failure, heartbreak, challenge, embarrassment and disappointments were all steps to grow me into the woman I am today. My challenge every day is to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Yes, I may be older than my peers but the point is I kept pushing even when life knocked me down. So I say to you, trust the process and never give up on yourself.
